Bureaucracy :: April 7th, 2003 ::

So I took three hours out of my week last week and did a couple of bureaucratic things that had been nagging at me for a while. First, I got a license:

I also started a bank account here in Vermont. Actually, more specifically, I joined a credit union which was something I had never contemplated before I met Jessamyn, who insists on their social and economic value. While I’m not completely sure how they fit into the larger socio-economic picture, I did find that everyone there was very nice, interesting, and engaging — not at all somehting I might expect from a financial institution.

While all that was well and good, and something to be proud of, definitely, other stuff seems to be breaking around the house. This weekend I found that my laptop, which has served me fairly well since November of 2000, has developed a pretty serious crack in its casing. It also tends to shut down unexepectedly, sometimes when I’m in the middle of writing an email (or posting to this site — now you know why I go away for weeks at a time...). It’s super frustrating.

Big purchases make me nervous.
