Last Day :: July 31st, 2003 ::

I’ve worked at my current employer for seven months. About a month and a half of that time was as a half-time employee; the rest as a fully employed worker, with full medical benefits and everything. After today, my work here ends.

While working here, systems administration became more of a professional responsibility, and less of a weekend hobby. I’ve learned that being responsible for users other than myself (and sometimes Jessamyn) can be a harrowing experience — co-workers have less of a tendency to be forgiving of someone who deletes their home directory on the file server. But despite any new sources of stress, I was given more decision making power here than I was at any other position previously. How cool is that?

So, please pardon me while I show the smallest bit of sentimentality as I move on to other segments of my life. In the short-term, I’ll be headed out on a tour of the Pacific Northwest, the Rocky Mountains, and the High Planes and praries with Jessamyn. Then I’ll be flying back to Vermont on my own, while she drives to North Carolina. In the long term, I’ll be coming back here to start law school on the 20th. That promises to be a new challenge, but I have surprisingly little to say about what it will be like at this point. Who knows why.
