The Pages Within

No Excuse

I really have no excuse for waiting a full damn week to update this thing. The only thing I can say is that, well, I've been busy. With other stuff. Here's a rundown:

  • I've started a weblog. An honest-to-god, weblog, full of links to things I find, with very little commentary, if any at all. I know, when I started this thing, it was something of a weblog, but then it evolved into more of an online journal/personal narrative thing. But then I found that I was becoming very disorganized, that I could not keep track of all the information I was inundated with daily, whether it be through work, mailing lists, discussions over drinks or whatever. I realized I needed that personal filtering thing, which I've learned now, is something completely unique to the weblog format. It's good to be back.
  • I've been learning PHP, and using my meo account as something of a sandbox. Dan Cody totally rocks, as well as the other Evolt admins. Tell them you love them.
  • I've been reading a bit more. In the past three weeks I've taken down three books, and am now on to the fourth: Republic.com. Needless to say, I've been thinking a lot lately about freedom, social responsibility, democracy, and web consumer culture because of it. It's been keeping me up at night.
  • I've been planning my trip to San Francisco. I'll be there between September 6 and 10, so if you're around, we should try to hang out. I'm almost 100% sure I'll be at Fray, so if we don't hook up otherwise, there's always that.
  • I've been messing around with Windows XP, and almost breaking my computer in the process. The only thing I have to say about that is: Microsoft has finally become everything they ever wanted to be. They've also become absolutely everything their market has wanted. The two are exactly the same.
  • For a while there, I was going to a lot of shows. But things have sort of tapered off in the past week or so. The last one I saw was K Records thing at the YMCA down in Racine. I wrote a little thingy about it here, and it showed up on K's Fanzine. How cool is that? (Oh, and if you're coming from there, welcome!)
  • And finally, I've been making mix tapes for people. Who knew when I posted that offer a while ago, people would actually respond. Cool with me. I just got some music from Jude, and that won the best-surprise-all-week award. Hands down.

But that's pretty much it, at least for now. I think the Milwaukee Evolt people are going to be having some end-of-summer bash next Wednesday (the 5th), so if you're in town, are a geek, or just like drinking beer and talking about computer stuff contact me. You are so invited.
