About Me
November, 2002
My name is Greg. I was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was educated in Iowa, and have spent most of my life in the Midwest. I still generally consider myself a Midwesterner, even though I've lived in Vermont for the better part of the past year, and have no immediate plans to migrate back to the American Heartland. Which is for two reasons: cultural acclimation is very slow but powerful process, and my stubborn mind set is very unaccommodating to change. I'm a Web developer by profession, a writer and English geek by training, and spend way too much time thinking about the nature of human existence. Which I've decided is OK, even if it does take up a lot of time. It provides me with a lot of personal entertainment, and as I understand it, it makes me interesting to talk to at parties. The only problem is that I tend to be fairly introverted, so getting me to talk at length can be sort of difficult. Which seems kind of strange, I know. So don't worry -- if I seem aloof it's not because I'm a snob. Really.
I have a girlfriend, who is very important to me. We have very different political beliefs and make different lifestyle choices, but we are able to work with those differences. She challenges my assumptions, and I feel I've grown a lot since we started seeing each other over a year ago. (In case you haven't figured it out, the whole reason I'm out here in Vermont is because I was staying with her at her at The Barn for the summer.) We spend a lot of time together, but we also spend some time apart. I know it seems like a strange thing for people to do who supposedly like each other so much, but it works for us.
I'm spending the winter in a house in Barre, Vermont, which is owned by a friend mine. You can see what it looks like, if you wish.
This is my Web site. Welcome. You will find that I maintain a journal of sorts here, which is updated semi-regularly. I also have a book list, which is updated fairly irregularly as well. My reading tends to go in spurts, and you can usually discern how busy I am by how active the book list is. (There is an inverse relationship between book list activity and business.) I also released the code I used for the book list, which you can find here. If you have any questions about that, or anything else, or if you just want to say hi, you can always email me.
I wish you the best.
